After a night of dancing, Ruth Gerda Miller, nee Hofmann, 87 of Mankato, loving mother of Chrissi (Tom) Jackson passed away December 6th, 2017. Ruth was the devoted grandmother of Alex (Ashly Bonson) Wallace, Michelle (Corey) Griggs, Daniel and Andy Davidson, and Tyler Jackson and cherished great-grandmother and aunt to many. She had recently found great joy with her special friend, Orville Bolduan.
Ruth was a force of nature. She was born and raised in Germany where she developed her talents as a baker and seamstress. At the age of 25, she immigrated to America. Although she had many career twists including sewing props for John Wayne movies, designing and creating pageant gowns, and teaching vocational classes, Ruth is best known for the two businesses that she owned and managed, Bloom’s Apple Orchard near Lake Crystal and The Deli outside of the Mankato Mall. She will be remembered for her black bottom cupcakes, her feisty personality, her generous nature, her love of dancing, and her warm hugs.
Ruth’s funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2017, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior to the service. The family prefers memorials be given to Mayo Clinic Stroke Research Program, Department of Development, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, August and Hilde; daughter, Vicki; and sisters, Christa, Waltraud, Irene, and Hildegund.
