Valeria was born on October 6, 1921; the second of 10 children to Andrew and Anna (Hartung) Haefner on the farm outside of Mankato. She attended grade school at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in Mankato through the 8th grade. She married the love of her life Cletus Frederick, the youngest child of Nick and Mary Frederick, on May 26, 1942. Together they raised 17 children on the Frederick Farm where the door was always open to everyone.
Valeria was energetic, loving and determined. She took pleasure in the outdoors and spent her time gardening and watching all generations of their family grow. Valeria loved children and she was known as Grandma Great to many. She would keep M&M's by her side in small cups to give to them after their visits. When the beauty of roses were given to her to enjoy and the petals would begin to fall, we were always reminded to dry the rose petals to scatter on her grave when the time came. Valeria enjoyed playing cards and sewing. She traveled around the world visiting family and listening to Cletus perform with his bands in many towns and countries. After returning with band members from dance jobs, she generously fixed chicken dinner for all. She lived her life through God and also served on the board for the Church Endowment Fund and St. Ann’s Altar Society. Valeria was the last of the children and in-laws of Nick and Mary Frederick. The end of a great era!
