Walt was born August 11, 1939 in Mankato to Wally and Irma Beinke. He grew up in North Mankato graduating from Mankato High School in 1958. He attended Mankato State University until he joined the National Guards during the Vietnam War. He began a lifelong career with Northern States Power Company as a lineman then line crew foreman working in Hastings, Faribault, and Mankato.

Walt loved hockey and played, coach, and refereed and then enjoyed watching his sons play.

He married Mary Kathyrn Lamb on July 24, 1964. They had four children who were the pride and joy of Walt’s life. He was the true American, loving God, family, and his country.
