Marlyn G. Wendt

Marlyn Wendt, age 90, of Amboy, died Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Mapleton Community Home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Vernon Center with Rev. Monte Meyer officiating. Burial with military honors in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
Marlyn Gerhart Wendt was born July 7, 1927 in Garden City to Arnold and Anna (Wilde) Wendt. After graduating from high school, he was inducted into the US Army in 1950 and served as a medic. Marlyn was honorably discharged in 1952 and had been awarded the Purple Heart.
On August 18, 1956, Marlyn was united marriage to Delores Mae Weise at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato. They made their home near Amboy, where they raised their three children, Cheryl, Allen, and Wayne. Marlyn was a generational farmer and loved the aspects of farm life, especially sharing in those responsibilities with his wife, family and seeing his sons continue farming. Marlyn not only spent his free time farming, he also found time to deer hunt, participate on a bowling league, visit area casinos, spend time in the garden, drive the combine, card playing with friends, and riding motorcycle.
Marlyn is lovingly survived by his three children, Cheryl Hagen and husband, Marcus of North Branch, Allen Wendt and wife, Colleen of Amboy, Wayne Wendt and wife, Gretchen of Amboy; five grandchildren, Megan Beadke and husband, Mike, Tyler Wendt, Devin Wendt and wife, Katie, Haylee Blackwell and husband, Jared, Dillon Wendt; two step-grandchildren, Ciara Brunz and Marshall Brunz; two great-grandchildren, Elianne and Mila Wendt; brother, Lewellyn Wendt of Amboy; sister, Eileen Riley of Amboy; many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Marlyn was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Delores in 2011; sister-in-law, Donna Wendt and brother-in-law, Maurice Riley.
