Kenneth Edward Ziegler, age 93, of Mankato, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Pathstone Living.


Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato, with Rev. John Kunz officiating.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the church and continues one hour prior to the mass on Saturday.  Memorials are preferred to VINE Faith in Action or the Echo Food Shelf.  Northview-North Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.


Kenneth was born December 16, 1923, in Mankato to Joseph and Stella (Duffey) Ziegler.  He was a 1941 graduate of Mankato Loyola High School.  Kenneth was united in marriage to Joan Roesch on February 7, 1945, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Belgrade Township.


Kenneth served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945-1946.  He was a farmer and also sold insurance for Farm Bureau.  Kenneth later became the owner of Skelly Oil for 15 years. 


He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, Eagle’s Club, and Mankato Post 11 American Legion.  Kenneth was also a 4-H Leader, Mankato Township Clerk and Planning Board member, Prime Time Board member, and drove school bus for Yaeger Bus Co.  He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, polka music, gardening, and birdwatching.


Kenneth is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Judy Russell of Eden Prairie, Jo Ann Olson of St. Cloud, Tom (Fran) Ziegler of Winthrop, John “Jack” (Lynn) Ziegler of Mapleton, Barb Hiniker of Minneapolis, Theresa (Scott) Haefner of Mankato, Cindy (Dan) Cummiskey of North Mankato, and Steve (Kristy) Ziegler of Mankato; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Schorn of Sartell; also many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gerald; brother, Don; sisters, Margaret Schmid and Helen Dale; and a son-in-law, John Olson.
