Daniel Ray Nelson, 71 of Good Thunder, died Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Visitation will be held from 4-7pm, Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary. Celebration of Dan’s life will be 11:00, Friday, November 3, 2017 at Crossview Covenant Church with visitation one hour prior. Military honors will be provided by the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad. Please share a memory with Dan’s family at www.mankatomortuary.com.
Dan was born on September 19, 1946 in Berwyn, IL and was adopted by Raymond and Opal (Carter) Nelson. His family lived near a farm in South Dakota before relocating to Lake Crystal when Dan was in middle school. After graduating from Lake Crystal High School, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 4, 1969. He served as a medic during the Vietnam War and honorably discharged on January 19, 1972. Daniel was united in marriage to Linda Anderson on July 25, 1970 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Good Thunder, and they were blessed with two sons. Dan was a production manager at Chip Steak for fifty years until his retirement.
In his spare time, Dan loved spending time outdoors. His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Crossview Covenant Church, VFW, and American Legion in Lake Crystal.
Dan is survived by his wife, Linda Nelson of Good Thunder; sons, Tim (Laurie) Nelson of Minnetrista and Matt (Michelle) Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Jacob, Sara, Madison, Cohen, and Benton; sister, Mona (Karam) Megala; half-brother, Ron (Wanda) Nelson; half sister, Irene (Tom) Wrenn; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
