Opal Mae Emery

Opal Mae Emery, age 81, of Vernon Center, went home to meet the Lord on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. 

A memorial service will be held on November 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Vernon Center.  Visitation will be November 3 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at the Vernon Center Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lions Club, Disabled American Veterans, or the donor’s choice.

Opal Mae was born on September 24, 1936 to William F. and Ida S. (Bennett) Miller in Perry, IA.  She graduated from Garden City High School in 1953.  Opal Mae was united in marriage to Kenneth F. Emery on February 20, 1955.  Together they farmed for many years.  Opal Mae was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Amboy Lions Club.  Opal Mae enjoyed taking pictures, working with her flowers, and quilting.  She loved being outdoors and going for drives.  She also loved to socialize and meet with her coffee group.

Opal Mae is survived by son, Glen (Amy) Emery of Lake Crystal; daughter, Zelta (Scott) Gens of Vernon Center; grandchildren, Jacob and Jeremy Wallace of Mankato, Tiffany Emery (special friend, Ross) of Vernon Center, Tabitha Mortenson of Vernon Center, Joel Emery (special friend, Ellie) of Madelia, Gunnar Gens of Vernon Center, Jason Gens of Mankato, and Shateen (Dan) Lichter of Adrian, MN; great-grandchildren, Kadence Emery and Aiden and Charlotte Lichter; brother, Ben (Midge) Vannatta of Perry, IA; and many nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 2003; sons, Ray in 2002 and Feodor in 1957; brothers, Paul Miller and George Vannatta; and grandson, Alex Gens in 1997.
