Lorraine Stanton, 98, of Mapleton, passed away on Wed., Oct. 11, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 14th at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church of Mapleton, followed by interment services at Sterling Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 13th at 4:30-7:00 p.m., and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the United Church of Mapleton. Lorraine, daughter of Myron and Mabel Healy Farnsworth, was born July 10, 1919 in Faribault County. She attended Country School, Delavan, and Mapleton High School. She excelled in girls’ sports and was also the first girl in the Mapleton High School band!
Lorraine married Archie Stanton on July 2, 1937 at her parents’ country home. They farmed in the Mapleton area all their lives. She is known for her wonderful cooking and baking, and there was always room for one or two more at their table! She was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers. She did canning, freezing, and preserving of jams and jellies annually. She also crocheted beautiful afghans and was an excellent seamstress.
Aside from her farming, homemaking, and raising five children, Lorraine also was an Avon representative, worked at Dietz’s Foods in Mapleton, and at Tony Down Foods in Madelia. She was an active member of the United Church of Mapleton, teaching Sunday School and serving on Ladies’ Aide. Lorraine was a member of the Rebekah Lodge where she served in leadership capacities. She was a volunteer delivering meals for the Meals on Wheels Program, routinely visited people in the Community Home, and served as a 4-H leader. Lorraine won the Blue Earth County Senior Volunteer of the Year Award, and subsequently the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award.
Lorraine enjoyed curling in the Heather Curling Club in Mapleton and served on the Board of the Robert Burns’ Celebration for several years.
Lorraine is survived by four of her children, Barbara (Ken) Schutt of Winnebago, Nancy Felber of Owatonna, Bruce (Karen) Stanton of Mapleton, and Bonnie Stanton of Mankato; grandchildren, Mark (Kara) Felber, MiRinda Kovacs, Amy (Greg) Thies, Melissa Latourelle, Elizabeth (Ryan) Bair, Anne (Cody) Voges, Rebecca Stanton and special friend Tyler, Ben Stanton, and Linda Stanton; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Mike Latourelle; brother, Merle (Delores) Farnsworth; sister-in-law, Joyce Farnsworth; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; stepparents; husband, Archie; daughter, Susan Latourelle; sons-in-law, Tom Felber and Jerry Roalson; brothers, Cal and Tony Grisè, Jim and Bob Farnsworth; sisters, Beulah Barnes and Jeanne Dahl Getten; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Lorraine will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.
