Therese Breiter

Therese Marie Breiter, 86, died Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at her home in North Mankato.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30a.m., Saturday, October 14, 2017 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato. Visitation will take place from 5-8p.m., Friday, October 13, 2017 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and one hour prior to the service at the church. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. The family prefers memorials be given to St. Joseph the Worker Scholarship Fund or St. Joseph the Worker Parish.

Therese was born June 7, 1931 to John and Elizabeth (Hoss) Girten in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Visitation Academy High School in Chicago in 1949. On December 29, 1956, she married Richard Breiter at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Chicago. Together they raised 7 children.

Therese was very active in the Winona Counsel of Catholic Women and as a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and for the last twenty-two years, of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. She was known for her beautiful singing voice and was an accomplished musician, including playing the organ for many years. In her free time, Therese enjoyed playing cards and sewing.   

Therese is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Mary (Scott Pratt) of Eugene, Oregon, Joseph (Chersti Hansen) of Brainerd, Minnesota, Kathy (Anthony) Ramirez of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Gerard (Roberta Jensen) of Mankato, Susan (Lawrence) Chambers of De Forest, Wisconsin, and David (Kate) of Mankato;  son-in-law, Brian Stecker; grandchildren, Alex (Jessica Mackinson) Pratt, Aaron (Whitney Shepherd) Pratt Shepherd, Dominic (Lacey) Breiter, Lorenzo Ramirez, Mark Breiter, Kaitlyn Chambers, Zachary Ramirez, Jacob Chambers, Owen Chambers, and Joseph Breiter; great-grandchildren, Brady Shepherd and Samuel Mackinson-Pratt; sister, Ruth Mieling; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Girten, Dorothy McCabe, Patricia O’Neil, Betty Dickinson, Sister Midge Breiter, SSND, Carolyn Welsch, and Donna Breiter; and brothers-in-law, Francis Welsch, Jerry Dickinson, and William Breiter; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Stecker; parents; brothers, Theodore and Walter Girten; sister, Sister Marie Theodore OP (Dolores Girten); and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
