Gary Robert Thompson
A host of angels welcomed home Gary Robert Thompson on October 5, 2017. Gary gave up his battle with COPD and is now breathing easily.
Memorial service 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lake Crystal. Visitation one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial in Holy Family Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Gary born on July 2, 1938 in Mankato to Harold and Charlotte Thompson. He attended Rapidan School where he loved playing basketball. He married Sandra Lange on June 17, 1961 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lake Crystal. He was employed at Crysteel for over 30 years as parts manager. Gary retired in July of 2003.
Gary was active in Cub Scouts. He was a past member of the Rotary Club and Gary coached a non-losing boy’s baseball team. He collected hundreds of logo caps, toy tractors and eagle statues. Gary enjoyed remodeling houses and was an avid bird watcher. After he retired, Gary enjoyed helping his son at his store, he got to talk to customers and his friends being the main reason. His first love was spending time with his family and his spoiled pets.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sandy; sons, Bob and Randy all of Lake Crystal; daughter, Tammy (Doug) Sherwood of Lake Crystal; grandson, Collin of Lake Crystal; granddaughter, Sierra of Medford, WI; great-granddaughter, Bella of Medford, WI; brother, Gordon of Bloomington, Charles (Barb) of Panama City, FL; sisters, Marilyn (Bill) Habinger and Barb Langworthy of Mankato; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (John) Kissner of New Ulm and Elfrieda Deopere of Lake Crystal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard; nephew, Jacob and sisters-in-law Rosemary (Bernard) Keech, Joeann (Marvin) Sieberg and Curlene (Phil) Pettersen, and loving parents-law, Therea and Curt Lange.
