Mankato resident, Richard “Dick” G. Steele, age 86, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017, at Ecumen Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Memorial Service 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 6, 2017, at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato with Rev. John Petersen, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service. Private family interment with military honors will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato Hospice.
Richard was born June 1, 1931, to Vincent and Gloria (Flemming) Steele in Rochester, Minnesota. He was a 1949 graduate of Mankato High School and a 1956 graduate of Mankato State Teachers College. Dick served in the U.S. Army, active duty, from 1951-53 and in the U.S. Army reserve from 1953-59. He left the Army as MSGT.
Dick married Jeanette McGran on August 28, 1954, in Mankato and they lived in Shakopee and St. Peter. He was a long-time employee of Minnesota Valley Natural Gas Company/Centerpoint Energy as Manager of Operations for the outstate area. He married Ramona Mueller in 1999 and they made their home in North Mankato and Pathstone Crossing Assisted Living.
Dick was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato and the American Legion and VFW in St. Peter. For many years after moving to North Mankato he was a volunteer driver for VINE. He was especially interested in travel, Sudoku (he always used a pen), reading, playing cards, and meeting friends for coffee and conversation.
Dick is survived by his wife, Ramona; three sons, Mark and his wife, Barbara of Elk Grove, CA, Steven and his wife, Pam of Rockton, IL, David and his wife, Mary E. of Menomonie, WI; daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Steele of Lakeville, MN; step-daughter, Connie Schnier and her husband, Randy of Rochester, MN; two step-sons, Greg Mueller of Lutsen, MN and Bradley Mueller of DeForest, WI; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Steele and his wife, Jill of Leesburg, FL and Dr. Ralph Steele of Eden Prairie; one niece and two nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jeanette; and son, John.
