Aileen Meyer

Aileen Hazel Meyer, 94 of Mankato and formerly of Wells, passed away September 30, 2017 at Pathstone Crossing in Mankato.

A Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Rosehill Cemetery in Wells. Northview – North Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family. The family prefers memorials be given to Pathstone Crossing.

Aileen was born August 3, 1923, in Tyler, Minnesota, the daughter of John N. and Anna (Shockley) Christensen. As a child, the family moved to a farm outside of Alden, MN. On November 12, 1943, she was united in marriage to Herbert William Henry Meyer at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells, Minnesota.

They spent their first 15 years together living and working on two different farms before moving to Wells in 1958. She then worked various jobs until she opened an in-home daycare, babysitting for her grandchildren and other families for 13 years. In 1983 she began working at her son’s flower shop and continued working there for 30 years until she was 90 years old.

Herb and Aileen loved to go dancing and have fun with friends. They traveled to ballrooms all around Southern Minnesota. They loved having company and enjoyed card games and spending time with family. They had a wonderful life together.

Aileen was very creative and talented with everything from sewing and embroidery to designing flower arrangements and craft projects. In her later years she enjoyed reading, coloring in adult coloring books and working in wordbooks.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells.

She is survived by one son, Dick and his wife Mary Meyer of Wells; 4 grandchildren, Rick and his wife Megan Meyer of Wells, MN, Michelle and her husband Jim Hansen of North Mankato, MN, Tracy and his wife Amber Meyer of Hudson, WI, and Stacy Foster of Wells, MN; 5 great-grandchildren, Blaise and his wife Carrie Schultz, Brittany Schultz, Ben Meyer, Ethan Foster, and Keagen Meyer; great-great-granddaughter, Aubrey Schultz; sister, Florence Kulla of Waseca, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert W.H. Meyer in 2002; son, Larry D. Meyer in 2008; brother John F. Christensen in 1997; and 2 sisters, Edna Swehla in 2000 and twin sister Arlene Klingbeil in 2017.
