Ethel Medalen

Ethel Anna Beatrice (Roos) Medalen, 103 of Mankato, passed away September 23, 2017 at Waters Edge Senior Living in Mankato.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Lyra Cemetery in Good Thunder. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ethel was born May 17, 1914 to Nils and Nora (Herseth) Roos in Hitterdal, Minnesota. She graduated from Hitterdal High School in 1932 and received her Bachelor’s degree from Concordia College in 1936. In 1939, she married Merle Medalen. Together they raised two sons, Charles and David. Ethel was a home economics and science teacher in Clarissa, Good Thunder, and Amboy, Minnesota. She retired from teaching in 1979. Following retirement, Ethel enjoyed traveling to many places around the world.   

Ethel is survived by her sons, Charles of Alexandria, Virginia and David (Jill) of Vancouver, British Columbia; and nephews, Howard (Linda) Roos and Dr. Donald (Clare) Roos. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merle; brother, Norman (Mercedes) Roos; and nephew, Dr. John Roos.
