Walton Richard Miller, 84 of Lake Crystal, died Friday, September 15, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James.

Funeral service will be held at 11am, Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary with visitation starting at 9:30am. Reverend Andrea J. Myers of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. The family prefers memorials be directed to Zion Lutheran Scholarship Fund. Wally was born on March 7, 1933 to Walter and Hazel (Thorson) Miller. He was raised on his family’s farm in Lake Crystal, which has been in the family for four generations. Wally graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1951. He returned home for two years before enlisting in the United States Army during the Korean War. Wally earned the National Defense Service Medal before being honorably discharged on December 5, 1955. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Zimmermann on August 18, 1957 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan, MN.

Wally’s lifelong passion and legacy was farming. He took great pride in his cattle. In his spare time, he also enjoyed watching westerns on television, traveling with his family, and reading.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine Miller of Lake Crystal; children, Greg (Cindy) Miller of Lake Crystal, Barb (Tim) Anderson of Lake Crystal, and Susan (Dan) Breid of Hudson, WI; grandchildren, Lee Miller, Jessi (Jeff) Ziegler, John Anderson, Kendall Anderson, Brock Miller, Samantha Breid, and Taylor Breid; great-granddaughter, Lauryn Ziegler; brother, Delbert (LaVonne) Miller of Vernon Center; and many nieces and nephews.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Steven Miller; and sister, Jean Keech.
