Mildred Gullixson was born on July 16, 1923, in Kennewick, WA. She was the oldest child of Theodore and Frieda Reese. She graduated in 1940 from the local high school. In 1944, she graduated from Pacific Lutheran College in Tacoma, Washington. She taught for two years in the Tacoma public schools.
On January 25, 1946, she was united in marriage with the Rev. Walther C. Gullixson, then pastor of Parkland Lutheran Church, Tacoma, WA. The Lord blessed their marriage with six children. Mildred also lived in rural Waterville, IA, rural Princeton, MN, and Sioux Falls, SD.
Mildred and Walt moved to Mankato, MN, in 1980 when Walt retired from the active ministry. In addition to being with her grandchildren, she also did volunteer work with Hilltop Neighbors, Meals on Wheels, and the Treasure Haus in New Ulm, Minnesota.
Mildred went to Heaven on August 27, 2017, at Water’s Edge in Mankato, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters-in-law, Arlie Reese and Lee Reese; brother-in-law, James Klundt; husband, Walther; granddaughter, Ruth Webber; and great-grandson, Simeon Gullixson.
Mourning her are her children, Theodore (Diane) of Mankato, MN, Norman (Rebecca) of Bozeman, MT, Margaret of Buena Park, CA, James (Connie) of Mankato, MN, Lois (Steven) Johnson of Mankato, MN, and Esther of Lake City, MN; 11 wonderful grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Walter Reese; sisters, Esther Reese and Marian Klundt; and many nephews and nieces.
Mildred’s funeral service will be held at 11am, Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation starting at 9:30am. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Mankato.
Memorials are preferred to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church or the ELS Synod.
