Kathryn J. Thorson

Kathryn J. Thorson, age 86, of Mankato, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Crystal Seasons in Lake Crystal.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapidan.  Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.  Burial will be in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Rapidan.  Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church or the Loaves and Fishes.

Kathryn was born on August 10, 1931 in Mankato to William and Jesse (Hislop) Mutch.  She graduated from Mankato High School in 1948.  On April 12, 1951, Kathy was united in marriage to Raymond “Ole” Thorson in Mankato.  Kathy was very involved with Calvary Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school.  She spent much of her life volunteering her time.  Kathy and Ole were members of the Tin Lizzies singing group through the Summit Center. They spent many winters together in Florida.  Kathy enjoyed gardening, quilting and she was an excellent seamstress.  Kathy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by three sons, Myron (Kandy) Thorson of Leander, TX, Lowell Thorson of Judson, and Kenneth (Lisa) Thorson of Lake Crystal; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ole in 2006; daughter-in-law, Peggy; 5 brothers; and 1 sister.
