Joan Marie Martindale, age 79, of Mankato and formerly of Bathgate, ND, died Monday, August 21, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Memorial Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Northview – North Mankato, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. A Funeral Mass will be held in Cavalier, ND with interment in Bathgate, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the MS Society.
Joan was born March 25, 1938 to J. Howard and Margaret (Whalen) McGlynn in Stephen, Minnesota. She graduated in 1956 from St. James High School in Grand Forks, ND. Joan was united in marriage to Vernon J. Martindale on July 21, 1956 in Grand Forks. They lived and farmed in the Bathgate area. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bathgate where she was a member of the altar society and taught catechism. She was a past Girl Scout leader and member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Joan sold World Book Encyclopedias, worked at Pioneer Rest Home in Bathgate, various Cafés, and child day care. She enjoyed playing bingo, camping, and time with her family. She moved to Mankato in 2011 after her husband’s death and while at Oaklawn enjoyed being a member of its Bell Choir.
Joan is survived by her four daughters, Marquita Hains, Wendy (Dean) Martindale-Bergene, Lorlee (Tim) Peterson all of Mankato, Peggy Wirtz of Fergus Falls; daughter-in-law, Mindy Martindale of Tehachapi, CA; 11 grandchildren, Jay, Josh, and Blake Hains, Michael and Robin Bergene, Matthew Peterson, Tess and Marissa Wirtz, Jillian Erekat, Brittany (Darin) Blankenship, Rachel Martindale; 10 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Mason, Alaina, Sierra, Savannah, Alexis, Cameron Jack, Jacklynn, Brooklynn, and Noah; three brothers, Glen (Donna) McGlynn, Howard McGlynn, and Ronald (Jane) McGlynn; nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; son, Jack; son-in-law, Brad Hains; sister, Marcia (Warren) Hoselton; brother, Michael (Jane) McGlynn.
