Hazel was born April 11, 1925 in Nicollet County, Minnesota to Frank Joseph and Rosella Marie (Schouviller) Dauffenbach. She graduated from St. Peter High School in 1943. On July 5, 1948, she was united in marriage to Duane Herzberg, and they raised six children until he passed away in 1982. She later married Roland “Bud” Jones on June 19, 1990.
Hazel was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Mankato for 74 years. She was an active member, always helping out at the church functions until her later years. Hazel cooked at St. John’s Catholic School and worked at Ginny May Donuts for many years. She had a passion for people. Anyone who was privileged to know her became her friend. She loved helping others. She was a wonderful cook, loved gardening and canning. She even canned a few quarts of tomatoes last summer at the age of 91. She loved playing cards, listening to old time music, watching the Minnesota Twins, and her pastime these last years was doing books upon books of word finds. She will be greatly missed. We are thankful for the 92+ years that she has touched people’s lives.
She is survived by her children, Karl (Rene) Herzberg of St. Peter, Anita (Robert) Donahue of Shakopee, Amelia (Ronald) Herz of Montevideo, Mark (Arlene) Herzberg of Madison Lake, and Bernie (Teresa) Herzberg of Mankato; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank and David (Patsy) Dauffenbach; and sisters, Bernice Peterson, Elaine (Roger) Michels, and Judy (Jim) Little.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Duane Herzberg in 1982; second husband, Roland Jones in 2014; daughter, Sheila Herzberg in 1968; daughter-in-law, Gloria Herzberg in 1973; grandsons, Andrew Herzberg in 1981 and Jason Donahue in 2009; and brothers, Merle, Jim, and Robert Dauffenbach.
