Charles “Chuck” Cornelius McLaughlin, age 92, of Mankato, MN died Monday, June 26, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Mankato Mortuary, followed by a private family service.
Chuck was born December 27, 1924, to Neil and Vida (Kreuzer) McLaughlin in Winona, MN. He graduated from Winona High School in 1943. Chuck played in the Hiawatha and Southern Minnesota “Minne” Baseball Leagues after High School. He served his country in the Army in 1943. He married Lorraine Gostomski on June 3, 1945 in Winona.
Chuck was a small businessman for the Taverna Barber Supply from 1953 to 1978, along with his father and brother-in-law. In 1956, Chuck moved his family to Mankato to accommodate the family barber business routes. He was a salesman for Grace-Lee from 1978 to 1988. He finished his career as a seasonal maintenance worker for the City of Mankato Parks Department from 1991 to 2011. Chuck enjoyed golfing, fishing, and a good cigar.
He is survived by his four children, Judy (Bill Henshaw) McLaughlin, Lodi, CA, Thomas (Theresa) McLaughlin, Mankato, Kevin (Vicky) McLaughlin, Eagle Lake, and Brian (Pamela) McLaughlin, North Mankato; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Lois Strange and Donna Riggle, and brother-in-law, Fritz Wild, all of Winona.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine in 1988; sister, Elaine Wild; and brothers-in-law, Len Strange, Virgil Riggle, and Frank Gostomski, Jr.
Memorials preferred to Salvation Army.
