At age 66, David died peacefully Saturday, June 3rd, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis with family at his side. David was born the 8th of September of 1950 to Darwin and Berneda Ward. He grew up on the family farm in Beauford Township, Blue Earth County. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1968 and went on to Mankato Technical Institute, majoring in fluid power technology. On September 20, 1975, he married the late Brenda Miller. They had three sons: Baby Boy, Miles and Shawn. David raised his boys in the Waterville, Elysian, Morristown school district. He was a frequent volunteer at Farm America in Waseca. On August 25th, 2012, he married Lucy DeLill. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elysian. In April of this year he earned his 31 year medallion in AA. David had a high mechanical aptitude. He enjoyed motorcycling, camping, collecting vintage guns, and sitting on his deck counting cars. He was a mentor to younger friends and loved hugs. He called some of his favorite people Fritz, Squeaks and Squeals, Hannah Banana, Belly Buttons (the twins,) D and Frankie. And we will forget what he called his least favorites. We will all miss Uncle, Papa, Grandpa Dave. David is survived by his wife, Lucy; son, Miles (Angie) Ward; son, Shawn (Carrinda) Ward; daughter Christie Kotasek (Aaron); 8 grandchildren; and sister, Darla (Dennis) Larson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Brenda; parents, Darwin and Berneda Ward; and infant son.
Memorial service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. and one hour before the service.
