Clarence Dean Alders, 92, of Mankato, died on May 19, 2017, at Ecumen Pathstone Living in Mankato, Minnesota. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Dean was born to John and Cecilia (Smith) Alders on July 10, 1924 in Barneston, Nebraska. He graduated from Barneston High School in 1942. Dean served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946 aboard the U.S.S. Pillsbury. He escorted convoys in the Atlantic during World War II. Dean and Florinne Glebe were united in marriage on August 18, 1947 in Fairbury, Nebraska. Dean was a math and statistics professor at Mankato State University from 1956-1989; he earned his Ph.D. in statistics from Iowa State University in Ames in 1976. Dean was an avid woodworker, he even built three homes. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and building and flying model airplanes with his youngest son, Douglas.
Dean is survived by his wife of 69 years, Florinne; children, James (Barbara) Alders, Kathryn Alders, and Douglas Alders and his special friend, Mary Cooney; and grandchildren, Jennifer (Tyler) Smith and Alexander Alders. Dean was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elaine.
