Vernon C. Winter, 100, of Mankato, died, Friday, April 21, 2017 at Pathstone Living.

 

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church.  Private family burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the ALS Association. 

 

Vernon was born April 13, 1917 in Garden, MI to Charles and Harriet (Farley) Winter.  He served in the United States Army from 1942-1946.  On June 21, 1950, Vernon was united in marriage to Mary Beauchamp.  He taught English at Mankato State University from 1950 until his retirement in 1982.  Vernon loved his church, his family, his books, and his flower garden. 

 

Vernon is survived by his wife, Mary of Mankato; children, Corinne (Jim) Harder of Davenport, IA, Harriet (Tim) Seaver of Ann Arbor, MI, Bill (Hatsie Charbonneau) Winter of Sterling, VA, Therese Mullins of Mankato, and Jim (Lori) Winter of North Mankato, MN; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joe; two brothers; two sisters.
