Robert Lyle Stoner, “Bob”, died peacefully in his home in Mankato at the age of 82, on April 14th from leukemia.
His service is Friday, April 21 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m. Visitation one hour before the service.
Bob was born on the farm in Mina, South Dakota, March 11, 1935. The last of seven children of Paul Linden and Gladys (Hermanstorfer). There he began a lifetime passion for fishing and hunting. Bob completed high school in LeGrand, Iowa while living with his oldest brother Paul’s family. There he was involved in school sports, stimulating another lifetime passion. He would attend games of his family, always cheering them on. He was big fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Timberwolves.
While in high school, Bob met the first love of his life and married Lorraine Bernadine Kinter. Together they raised three children. He worked in many fields before settling into the grocery business. After losing Lorraine to cancer, he married Helena Decker, of Mankato, in 1981 and helped her finish raising her two children in Bismarck, North Dakota. There he opened Stoner’s Sav-Way grocery store, noted for his meat department specialties. Many lifelong friends, and fishing/hunting buddies were made while there. Bob’s failing health prompted a return to Mankato.
Bob shall be deeply missed by his children, Debra (Will) Michalski of Mankato, Robert (Jane) Stoner of Iowa, Terry (Sue) Stoner of No. Dakota; wife, Helena and her children, Teresa Taylor of California, William (Kim) Decker of Mankato. Robert was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Lorraine; five siblings; and beloved dog, Sable.
His family wishes to thank Dr. Sadiq, nurse, Karen Hintz, hospice, Dr. Bogonco, and REHC for the compassionate care they gave to all.
