Visitation will be Monday, April 17 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Northview North Mankato Mortuary and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Debby was born on February 25, 1953 to Bill and Donna (Filzen) Hlavac in Northfield, Minnesota. Her family moved to North Mankato in 1956 where Debby and her siblings were raised and where they forged many fond memories. She graduated from Loyola High School in 1971. She married Kevin McGuire in 1973 and they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary last Friday, April 7. Together they made their home in Eagle Lake and raised two sons, Ryan and Andy, during which time Debby also provided daycare in their home, having loved many children over the course of 30 years.
Debby was an extraordinary person who held to the belief that people are good and that they sometimes make mistakes for which they deserve second, or more, chances. She believed in people when they had a hard time seeing their own potential. She believed in the power of forgiveness and she had no interest in judging others. She loved deeply and unconditionally. Family was above all else to her. Her greatest joy after raising her own children was becoming a grandmother to her two young grandchildren. She was determined to live to see them grow. Debby was unbelievably creative and artistic, she loved social activities, having belonged to “lunch groups” and her Red Hat Society group, she looked forward to reunions of any type and loved having people around her. She had lifelong friends. Debby loved all things purple! She was the most unique gift giver most of us ever knew. She was kind and generous, a devoted and faithful wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
She is survived by her loving husband, Kevin; sons Ryan (Jake) of Coon Rapids and Andy (Brooke) and two grandchildren, Mya and Camdyn McGuire of Mankato; mother Donna Hlavac of Mankato; brothers Steve (Karen) Hlavac and Bill (Mary) Hlavac, both of North Mankato; sisters Bev. (Michael) White and Linda Kump, both of Mankato; brothers- and sisters-in-law; several beloved nieces and nephews; cousins and aunts and uncles.
Debby was preceded in death by her father, William Raymond Hlavac in 1981; her paternal and maternal grandparents and by her father- and mother-in-law, Mick and Lorraine McGuire.
