Dorothy Irene "Dot" Jacobs, age 81, of Madison Lake, died Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, with Rev. Robert Schneider officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Madison Lake. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, and continues one hour prior to the mass at the church on Wednesday.
Dot was born September 25, 1935, in New Bedford, Bristol Co., Massachusetts to Blanche A. Lefrancois and husband who left the family. Dot would choose to recognize step-father, Hans Ness as a parent who was with the family as they grew up. She spent some childhood years in a Catholic Orphanage until her mother was able to get the family together again. She remembered going through black-outs during World War II. She told of having a stepfather lost at sea and later a Norwegian fisherman as stepfather. Her school years were at Fairhaven, MA and New Bedford, MA. Her home was very close to the Atlantic seashore.
Dot was united in marriage to Leland Jacobs on February 6, 1954, in New Bedford. Dot and her sailor-boy husband traveled to Madison Lake, MN to continue their 63 year marriage. The family made many car trips back to visit Dot's home in Massachusetts over the years. Prior to marriage Dot worked as seamstress in a stitching factory. After marriage and being a stay-at-home mom, Dot worked in area factories, cooked at All Saints School, and stitched for a Drapery and Home Fashion owner. She currently had made quilts for all her children, grandchildren and some lucky friends.
Dot is survived by her husband, Lee; three children, Raymond (Julie) Jacobs of North Mankato, Ronald (Lori) Jacobs of North Mankato, and Lee Ann Jacobs of Mankato; grandchildren, Dustin and Brandon (Jenny) Jacobs, Ross (Tiffany) Worrell and Mirissa Worrell (Tony), Amanda Worrell (Corey), Casandra (Nate) Page, Nikole (Adam) Gartner, and Jeff Haglund; great-grandchildren, Cole Jacobs and Lillianna Gartner; sisters, Yvette Mederios and Vivian Ponte; brother, Robert (Charlotte) Lefrancois; brother-in-law, Pat (Carol) Jacobs and sister-in-law, Shirley Schaub.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ilene Williams; brother, Fred Lefrancois; and a godchild, Kelly Schaub.
