Eleanor B. (Peterson) Ostrom

Eleanor B. (Peterson) Ostrom, age 92, of Mankato, died on Monday, February 27, 2017 at her home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Northview.

Eleanor was born on March 6, 1924 in La Crosse, WI to William and Minnie (Carson) Gerdes.  She graduated from La Crosse Central High School.  She graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in education.  Eleanor was united in marriage to Lauren Peterson on November 27, 1947 and he died in 1972.  She later married Marvin Ostrom in 1996.  Eleanor taught at many country schools and several local public schools in the area including, Waterville, Garden City, Vernon Center, and Madelia.  Eleanor enjoyed traveling, gardening, quilting, crocheting and crafts. She also enjoyed singing and sang in the chorus at the Summit Center. 

Eleanor is survived by her three children, Duane (Diana) Peterson, Debbie Schleicher, and Anita Peterson; grandchildren, Laura Borneke-Schauer (Matt), Scott Peterson (Rachel Kluver), Jim (Cassidy) Peterson, Susan (Bud) Bliss, Julie Peterson (Connor Ell), Nic Schleicher, Phillip (Jane) Schleicher, Kristen Schleicher (Kyle Lindquist), and David Peterson; 14 great-grandchildren, Emily and Erin Borneke, Erik Schauer, Kyle, Elisabeth, and Grant Peterson, Logan and Greysen Peterson, Ivy and Gage Bliss, Ellie Mae and Cora Belle Schleicher, and Kooper and Kolby Lindquist; brother, Gordon (Verna) Gerdes; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Gerdes.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Lauren Peterson and Marvin Ostrom; brother, Herb Gerdes; and sister, Loreen (Pete) Fokema.
