Arlo Nelson Sandvig, age 93 of North Mankato, died February 23, 2017 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m., Wednesday at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials to Holy Rosary Catholic Church or the donor’s choice.
Arlo Nelson Sandvig was born on May 14th, 1923 at Madelia, Minnesota to Burt and Freida Nelson Sandvig. He attended Country School in Butternut, Minnesota. He helped on the family farm until entering the army on January 23, 1944. He was with the Occupational Forces of Japan. He was discharged in October of 1946. He worked for Marigold Dairies for over 38 years, retiring in 1985.
He married Dorothy Marie Danzer on August 23rd, 1951 at SS. Peter and Paul Church. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters-St. Joseph’s Ct. #552, Mankato. A member and past governor of Mankato Moose Lodge, a member of the Legion of the Moose and it’s Fellowship Degree. He was a member and past Commander of V.F.W. 950 and a member of the American Legion Post 518. He was also a member of the World War II Last Man’s Club. Arlo improved and saved many lives as a 16 gallon blood donor.
Arlo is survived by his wife, Dorothy of North Mankato; two sons, Gary (Nora) Sandvig of North Mankato, MN, Steven (Kim) Sandvig of Youngsville, NC; two grandsons, Brian (Kelli) Sandvig, Scott Sandvig; two great granddaughters, Lydia and Ivy Sandvig; sister-in-law, Helen Mahair; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Clarice, Joyce, Glenda, and Lois; brother Merlyn.
