Lester Melvin Hewitt, age 95, of North Mankato, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church in Mankato, with the Rev. Dr. Nancy A. De Vries officiating.  Private family interment will be held at Minneopa Cemetery in Mankato.  Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour before the service at church.

Lester was born March 24, 1921, in Cambria to George and Gladys (Owens) Hewitt.  He was a 1939 graduate of Lake Crystal High School.  Lester served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1943.  He was united in marriage to Grace Harris on August 8, 1942, in North Mankato.

Lester was employed as a purchasing manager and manufacturing engineer with Kato Engineering, retiring after 42 years of service.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mankato.  Lester enjoyed working in his machine shop, traveling in his RV, family genealogy, and Friday morning coffee with friends at Hy Vee.

Lester is survived by his two children, Carol (LaVern) Christianson of Windom and Lowell (Meg) Hewitt of North Mankato; four grandchildren, Mark Christianson and his special friend, Dave Pieczkiewicz, Cathy Christianson, Lee (Veronika) Hewitt, and Lori (Jeremy) Blackwell; one great-grandson, Avery Barbeau; three step-great-grandchildren, Jared (Haylee) Blackwell, Kyla Blackwell and her special friend, Jose Carreno, and Cheyenne Blackwell; one step-great-great-grandson, Jaxon Carreno; also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace in 2000; and three brothers, Roy, Bob, and Owen.
