Ivan Charles Baumgartner

Ivan Charles Baumgartner, 86 of North Mankato, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with military honors to follow. Visitation will take place from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Dr., in North Mankato and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial at Woodland Hills Memorial Park at a later date. Memorials are preferred to North Mankato American Legion Post 518.

Ivan was born July 9, 1930 to Berthold and Mable (Wendorf) Baumgartner in Hewitt, MN. He graduated from St. Cloud Tech in 1948 and continued his education at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954. On March 7, 1952 he married Jacqueline Roberts in Ft. Monmouth, NJ. Together they raised six children. Ivan was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and North Mankato American Legion Post 518. He was employed with IBM for 30 years until his retirement in 1987.

Ivan was known to be a handyman with a great sense of humor. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, billiards, fishing, horseshoe league, gaming, including playing bingo at the Legion, and family vacations up north. He also loved watching all sports including attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Ivan is survived by his daughters, Jill (Mike) Martinka, Gail (Mike) Sexe, Becky Miller, Dana (Clint) Bahe, and Kari (Gary) Eckstein; son, Scott (Mary) Baumgartner; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and sister, Verna (Al) Braga. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline in 2003; and sisters, Irene, Ruby, and Idella.
