Gary W. Hagberg, age 63, of Mankato, passed away on Friday, January 27 after a brave battle with cancer. A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m.Saturday, February 4 at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, with visitation preceding at 1:00 p.m. Interment at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Snelling on February 6.
Gary was born June 15, 1953 in Little Falls, MN to Kenneth and Dorothy Hagberg. He grew up in Lafayette, MN, graduating from Winthrop High School in 1971. He served in the US Air Force and graduated from MSU with a degree in Business and Construction Management and a minor in Geography. He later began his construction business and built over 100 homes in the Mankato area. Gary had a reputation for integrity and quality work.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, bow hunting, canoeing, cross country skiing and golf. He was a die-hard Vikings fan and held season tickets for years. His many interests included geography and map collecting, weather and cribbage. He will be greatly missed by family and many friends.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Leah Michel (Brandon) of Mankato; sisters, Joyce Hanson (Stan) of Burlington, KY, Karen Thompson of Burnsville, Vonnie Fruhwirth (Jim) of New Ulm; brothers, Mike Hagberg of St. Paul, MN, Jim Hagberg of Lino Lakes, MN; his mother, Dorothy Hagberg of New Ulm; and nieces and nephews.
