Alfred Lewis Carlson, age 87, of Mankato, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Memorial Service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be one hour before service. Interment will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery.
Alfred Lewis was born December 13, 1929, to Silas and Ruth (Clark) Carlson in Cambria, MN. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1947. Lewie served his country with the U.S. Army from 1952-54 during the Korean War. After the service, Lewie worked for the Great Northern Railroad for a short time, farmed, and also worked for the US Post Office in St. Paul and Mankato as a clerk for 27 years before retiring. Lewie married Ila Mae (Kunde) Sumner in December 1966. They later divorced. Lewie enjoyed hiking, walking, outdoor activities, helping farming, attending sporting activities of his nieces and nephews, cracking black walnuts, and spending time with his family.
Lewie is survived by his adopted children, David (Kay) Carlson of Lake Crystal, Dale (Deb) Carlson of Medina, Janet Ellanson of Lake Crystal, and Wayne (Susan) of Dubuque, IA; three brothers, Phillip Carlson of Mankato; Robert (Norma) Carlson of North Mankato, and Wesley (Gloria) Carlson of Chino Valley, AZ; two sisters, Edna Hughes of Lorena, TX, and Eleanor Roth of Mankato; sister-in-law, Louise Carlson of Marysville, WA; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Lewie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Victor Carlson; sister, Marcella Smith; brothers-in-law, Albert Roth, Dewey Jackson, Woodson Hughes, and John Smith; sister-in-law, Valleen Carlson.
