Wayne Roger “Scorch” Southwick, 87 of Mankato, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Oaklawn Healthcare Center in Mankato.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Friday, January 6, 2017 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary and also one hour prior to the Mass at church. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with military honors following. In honor of our Dad, if possible please wear a plaid flannel shirt to the visitation and service. After lunch, burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Wayne was born in St. Paul on November 27, 1929 to George “Harold” and Nellie (McMahon) Southwick. They lived on a farm in the rural Mapleton and Beauford area. Wayne attended Mapleton High School, class of 1947. He enlisted in the United States Army on February 12, 1947, serving in Japan and Korea as a motion picture projectionist, and was honorably discharged on October 22, 1949. Wayne studied Tool & Die Making at Mankato Vocational School and worked at Minnesota Automotive, now MICO, for 38 years until retirement in 1989. Scorch was a charter member of the American Legion Post 617 in Eagle Lake. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and working on home projects.
On May 9, 1964, he married Lorraine Pierce at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. They had one son, Roger Wayne, twin girls, Linda Marie and Lori Lee, and one granddaughter, Marissa Kay Daninger.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Southwick of Mankato; son, Roger (Kate) of Northfield, daughters, Linda Southwick Daninger of Woodbury, and Lori (Barb Higgins) Southwick of Eden Prairie; granddaughter, Marissa Daninger; sister, Beverly Mills of Anoka; and nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and by sisters Patricia Holbrook and Geraldine Schwichtenberg.
