Ralph V. Baumgartner, age 91 of North Mankato died, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Monarch Meadows in North Mankato.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday at Mankato Mortuary and continue one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial at Christdala Cemetery in Millersburg, MN. Memorials may be given to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato YMCA, or Christdala Cemetery Association.

Ralph V. Baumgartner was born August 22, 1925 in Minneapolis to Melvin Baumgartner and Elsie (Franson) Paulson. Ralph graduated from Northfield High School in 1943 and then served his country in World War II in the US Army Air Corp. He was united in marriage to Selma L. Kauffeld on May 5, 1946 in Santa Ana, CA. They moved to Northfield and began farming. Ralph then worked at Southern Valley Coop. and eventually became the general manager. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato and the Farmers Union.

Ralph enjoyed the outdoors especially deer hunting and fishing, as well as discussing politics. He also very much enjoyed his grandchildren and family.

Ralph is survived by his four children, Ralph “Bud” Baumgartner of St. Paul, MN, Susan (Denny) Douma of St. Cloud, MN, Paul Baumgartner of Prior Lake, MN and Joyce Baumgartner and her husband Alec Boyce of Sioux Falls, SD, 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Selma Baumgartner; parents; step-father, Carl Paulson; and sister, Gertrude Larsen.
