Dr. Chan Hyu Lee, Professor Emeritus of Finance at Minnesota State University-Mankato, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, December 31, 2016, surrounded by his family following a long battle with cancer. Born in Kwangju, South Korea on January 24, 1931, Dr. Lee is survived by his wife of 43 years, Soonki, three children, Charlene (Heath) Walker, Mimi Lee (Tom Glascock), and William (Elena) Lee, two sisters, two brothers, and nine grandchildren. He would also have said that he is also survived by more than 1,000 students.
Dr. Lee received his Bachelor and Master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska and went on to earn his Doctorate degree from Northern Illinois University. He has been teaching at various universities since 1973. Passionate about teaching others the importance of financial planning, Dr. Lee established the Financial Planning Certificate Program at the College of Business, Minnesota State University in 1998 and served as the program’s director until his retirement from the university in 2005. During his distinguished teaching career and under his leadership, MSU’s Financial Planning Certificate Program achieved an incredible 83% passing rate in November 2005. His legacy will live on as the program continues to thrive today. After his retirement, Dr. Lee enjoyed playing tennis and golf, gardening and landscaping, spending time with his family, and traveling the world with his wife. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM, with visitation one hour before, at Crossview Covenant Church, North Mankato, with Rev. Libby Englehorn and Rev. Aaron Thompson officiating.
Graveside and burial services will follow immediately at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.
