John "JP" Picek

John "JP" Picek, 67 of Mankato, died January 2, 2017 at Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

A Time of Remembrance will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Mankato Mortuary in Mankato. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2017 at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.

JP was born February 11, 1949 to Louis and Alma (Janko) Picek in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For the past 16 years JP worked for Mankato Motors.

JP called Mankato his home for over 40 years and throughout that entire time he was able to impact the lives of those close to him as well as those he met on any given day. JP was considered an amazing father to his son Judd and daughter Jessie, teaching them in his own way what it meant to be an independent person that knows how to approach life with both arms open while living it to its fullest potential. By never underestimating what each day held, he was able to enlighten all those around him with his sarcastic sense of humor that either put you in awe or on the floor with laughter.

In his free time, JP enjoyed riding his Harley and traveling to Sturgis every year.  He was especially a proud grandfather. JP will be greatly missed by all.

JP is survived by his children, Judd Picek of Brainerd, MN and Jessica Picek of North Mankato; grandchildren, Kensington and Jackson; and brother, Louis Picek. He is preceded in death by his parents.
