Delores A. Sloan, age 85, of Lake Crystal, died Sunday, January 1, 2017 at her home.
A Celebration of Delores’ Life will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Lake Crystal Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday at the mortuary. Interment will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery.
Delores was born October 4, 1931 to Frank and Grace (Hoeft) Austin in Judson Township, Blue Earth County. She was baptized at the First Lutheran Church of Madelia. Delores has been a member of the Methodist Church since 1944. She was a member of the Ruth/Esther Circle, UMW, and the American Legion Post #294 Auxiliary.
Delores was united in marriage at the Baptist parsonage in Lake Crystal to Russell Sloan on June 25, 1949. Delores and Russell just celebrated 67 years of marriage. They lived in Madelia for 3 years and the rest of the time in Lake Crystal. Delores worked many years at the Lake Crystal Health Care Center in the Kitchen. She helped for many years with the church garage sale, soup suppers, and noon lunches at the legion. Delores volunteered at Grace Thrift Store, enjoyed quilting at Zion Lutheran Church, played bingo, many trips to the casino, and playing cribbage with friends at the Legion Club every morning.
Delores is survived by sons, Jim (Kathy) of Mankato, Bill of Red Wing, Dave of Lake Crystal; daughter, Julie (Jerry C. Lewis) Miller of Lake Crystal; grandchildren, Amy Merkley (and special friend, Vic) of Clearwater, FL, Matt (Kirsten) Sloan of Red Wing, Patty Sloan of Mankato; one great-grandson, Zachary Sloan; sisters, Bonita Brummond of Mesa, AZ and Mary Lou Williams of Amboy; and extended family.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents; Frank and Grace; husband, Russell on September 5, 2016; son, Steve on October 21, 2013; in-laws, James and Margaret Sloan; sister, Donna Bachman; brothers, Gene Austin, Ray Austin, Roy Calvin Austin (6 months old) and a stillborn sibling; brothers-in-law, Willard Bachman, LeRoy Brummond, Ronald Williams; and son-in-law, Glenn Miller in 2005.
