Blanche Lucille Gemmill, 86 of Mankato, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Laurel’s Edge Assisted Living.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private family burial at Glenwood Cemetery. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Blanche L. Gemmill was born in Jackson County, MN on a farm south of Alpha on August 20, 1930 to Frank and Carrie (Stipek) Ambrose. She attended Alpha Public School and graduated from Jackson High School in 1948. She married Gordon Gemmill on September 1, 1949 in the little town of Alpha, MN. Blanche was a homemaker when the children were growing up and later worked at the Mankato Clinic in data entry for several years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, taking care of the floral arrangements and flowers for many years. When that church closed, she became a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Blanche enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, growing flowers, selling Avon, reading, camping, and attending Bible study groups. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Blanche is survived by her husband, Gordon; daughter, Barbara (Peter) Rhoads; sons, Richard Gemmill of Mankato and Daniel (Barbara) Gemmill of Mankato; granddaughters, Amanda (Alex) Swanson of Kasota, MN and Britney and fiancé, Nate Stewart of Mankato; great-grandchildren, Blake and Adam Swanson; brother, Charlie Ambrose; sisters-in-law, Nadine (Wayne) Schumacher, Mary (Jim) Blackburn, and Melvin (LaDonna) Gemmill; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie and Frank Ambrose; brother, Edward; father and mother-in-law, Archie (Mabel) Gemmill; and sisters-in-law, Sally Ambrose, Janet Ambrose, Avis (Walt) Olson, and Neola (Joe) Bass.
