Carol Sue Brown, 64, of Mankato, Minnesota passed away on December 27, 2016 in Edina, Minnesota following a two and a half year journey with cancer.
Carol Flaig was born on September 16, 1952 in Redwood Falls. Her many accomplishments include receiving her B.S. in Nursing from St. Scholastica, M.S. in Public Health from the University of Minnesota, and PhD in Nursing from the University of Minnesota. The two highlights of her career in nursing were teaching undergraduate college students at Minnesota State University-Mankato for over 16 years, and advancing the profession as a traveling member of the national accreditation team for the commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Carol continued this leadership role with CCNE in between cancer treatments and recoveries.
On August 4, 1973 Carol married Robert Brown in Olivia, Minnesota. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and visiting the ocean, reading, golfing, and greatly cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was dearly loved by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, and she truly enjoyed supporting them.
She was preceded in death by her father Francis Flaig.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 43 years, Robert; children Christa (Sean) Brown-Switzer and Matthew (Anna) Brown; grandchildren Savannah, Cosette and Eponine Switzer, and Simon and Celeste Brown; mother Elaine Pechtel; and siblings Rosemary Bird, Peggy Hellier, Bonnie Prinsen, and Brian Flaig.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 29 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary and for one hour prior at the church, with interment to follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Memorials should be directed to School Sisters of Notre Dame.
