Donald “Don” W. Lind, 74 of North Mankato, passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Pathstone Living in Mankato after a lengthy and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Donald W. Lind was born December 28, 1941, to Willis and Linnea Lind in St. Peter. After graduating from St. Peter High School in 1960, he attended Mankato State University and South Central Technical College. He married Carol Gilbertson in 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter. They lived in Morristown, and he worked at Kato Engineering. Don spent four years in the Navy aboard the USS Bryce Canyon from 1966-1970. After returning to Roseville in 1970, he worked at Isomatic as a tool and die maker. The family moved to New Brighton in 1973. During this time, he was a sales representative for EMC Corporation. The family moved to North Mankato in 1980, and he became the General Manager of Quality Extrusion until his retirement in January 2004.
He was a member of the American Legion, Christ the King Lutheran Church and church choir, Mankato Riverblenders and other men’s choirs, former board member of Messiah Lutheran Church, former member of the Sertoma Club and Mankato Curling Club, and was active in coaching Little League teams and coaching basketball for Special Olympic teams. He also enjoyed sporting activities, hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Don’s surviving family includes his wife of 52 years, Carol; son, Gregg of Mankato; Mike (Kari) Lind of Cottage Grove; and two grandchildren, Erik and Sonja Lind of Cottage Grove; sister, Marian (Dennis) Nygard of St. Peter; sister, Margaret (Tom) Blackburn of Minnetonka; sisters-in-law, Marlene Lind of St. Peter and Joyce (Loren) Anderson of Lakeville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Dave.
The family would like to thank Pathstone Living and Pathstone Daycare for the wonderful care they provided Don over the past 10 years.
A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 2, 2017, at Christ the King Lutheran Church (222 Pfau Street, Mankato, MN 56001) with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. Military honors will be provided following the service.
