Eveyln Mae Luhring

Evelyn Mae Luhring, age 93, of Mankato died December 23, 2016 surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato.  Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. John Kunz officiating.  Private interment at Calvary Cemetery.  Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn was born September 2, 1923 to Joseph and Rose (Peters) Keltgen.  She attended country school in Belgrade Township, Good Counsel, and graduated from Loyola High School.  Evelyn raised five children as a single mother.  She was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and participated in the perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  Evelyn worked at Midtex until she retired.  She enjoyed time spent with family and friends, gardening, sewing, reading, playing cards, occasional trips to casinos and traveling.  Weeds that appeared in her yard were endangered species.  She made her children Christmas tree skirts that took on special meaning this year and will be treasured into the future.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Ken (Sharon), Steve, and Ed Luhring; daughters, Jan (Bill) Rittenhouse and Nan (Loren) Zickefoose; grandchildren, Jason Rittenhouse, Mikaela (Will) Sanders, Amy Rittenhouse (Josh Frederick), and Missy (Jim) Melberg; step grand-children, Bryan Zickefoose (Tasha Smith) and Kelly (Frank) Quinby; great-grandchildren, Mason Sanders, Jenna and Amanda Rittenhouse and Dustin and Daisie Melberg; sister, Marlene (Roger) Leonard; brother-in-law, Dick Sonnek; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Keltgen; many nieces, nephews, step great-grandchildren, and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Don (Lois) and Jerry Keltgen; sister, Marion Sonnek; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bruce and LaVonna Marble.

The family prefers memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
