Virgil Juliar, age 93, of Mankato, died on Sunday, December 18 at New Perspective (formerly Keystone). 

 

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Hilltop United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in the spring at Medo Central Cemetery.  Memorials are preferred to Hilltop United Methodist Church. 

 

Virgil was born in Blue Earth County on a family farm to Irving and Clara (Oelke) Juliar on February 14, 1923.  He graduated from St. Clair High School in 1941 and Mankato Business College in 1942.  Virgil enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served in the 8th Army Air Force.  He was stationed at Burtonwood Royal Air Force base in Warrington, England.  Virgil was united in marriage to Erma Mary Goodrich in Pemberton on November 25, 1946.  They were married for 68 years until Erma’s death in 2015.  Virgil was employed by Gamble Robinsons and Schwickerts in Mankato before buying the family farm near Pemberton in 1950.  He farmed for 20 years before working for Blue Earth County in the assessor’s office until his retirement.  Virgil enjoyed fishing trips, deer hunting, 25 years of a lake cabin at Duck Lake and 20 years of living in Apache Junction, AZ during the winter months.

 

Virgil is survived by his daughter, Jean (Roger) Vogt of Owatonna; son, Arnie Juliar of Mankato; granddaughter, Rachel (Mark) Nelson and their daughter, Leah Nelson; grandson, Jared (Becky) Juliar and their son, Loghan Juliar; brother, Orvis (Marilyn) Juliar of Jensen Beach, FL; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Goodrich of Orange, CA.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Erma; great-granddaughter, Shelbi Lynn Juliar; brother, Lorin (Arlene) Juliar; sisters-in-law, Fae (Lawrence) Geise and Gladys (Lester) McMillin; and brothers-in-law, Elmer (Beulah) Goodrich and Glenn Goodrich.
