Delphin William Urban
Delphin “Del” William Urban, 86, of Lake Crystal, died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
Memorial service will be held at 10am, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary with visitation one hour prior. Following the service, military honors will be provided.
Del was born on May 5, 1930 in Pleasant Mound Township to Arnold and Esther (Stoeck) Urban. He was baptized on May 18, 1930 and confirmed on April 2, 1944 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Willow Creek. Del was inducted into the U.S. Army on February 5, 1952 during the Korean War and was wounded in action on June 19, 1953. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and a Purple Heart before being honorably discharged on November 4, 1953.
Del was united in marriage to Verona Kopischke on June 20, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Willow Creek. He continued to work on the farm until 1969. Then, he began working as a sawyer in the lumber business until retirement.
He was a member of the VFW Post 1222 in Fairmont, DAV Chapter 10 in Mankato, and Legion Post 561 in Lewisville, and St. John’s Lutheran Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Verona Urban of Lake Crystal; children, Susan Covey of Orr and James (Gina) Urban of Lake Crystal; grandchildren, Scott (Lanie) Covey of Mapleton, Kaytlin Urban of Mankato, and Justin Urban of Lake Crystal; great-grandchildren, J.D. and Maci Covey; sisters-in-law, Helen Kopischke, Olivia Kopischke, Norma (Jerry) Kelley, and Donna Weir Kopischke; and brother-in-law, Gordon (Dorothy) Kopischke.
Del was preceded in death by his parents.
