Retired Bookmobile Librarian, Lanny L. Grimm, age 73, died November 3, 2016 at his home.
As per Lanny’s request, no visitation or service will be held. Memorials may be sent to the Mankato Salvation Army Social Services or Christmas Fund. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Lanny was born September 2, 1943 to Clarence and Rita (O’Connor) Grimm in Mankato. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1961 and attended Mankato State University. He was a Golden Gloves Heavyweight Boxing Champion in 1962. In June 1963 he married Marcella “Mickey” McCarthy, they later divorced.
Lanny had worked at Midwest Electric, UBC Lumber Co., Mankato Postal Service, Brown Printing, and from 1983-1998 he worked at the Minnesota Valley Regional Library as the Bookmobile Librarian. As a member of AFSCME Local 3453 he was a negotiator during the 1987 Library strike, and later served as Union President several terms. He enjoyed reading, bicycling, pencil puzzles, bargain hunting, and playing the keyboard.
Lanny is survived by a son, James “Jamie” Grimm; two daughters, Colleen Myhre and Tracy (Chad) Havener; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild, all of the Des Moines, IA area. Lanny was preceded in death by his parents.
