Neil Henry Stevermer, age 90, of Mankato, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to VINE Faith In Action. Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Neil was born July 7, 1926, in Walnut Lake Township. He was the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Weaver) Stevermer. Neil graduated from a country high school near Delavan. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan just following WWII.
Neil was united in marriage to Joan Zimny in 1955. They later divorced. He married Erna Scholtz Mayer in 1981. Neil was employed as an inspector at Continental Can for 30 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Neil enjoyed art and painting, woodworking, hiking, nature and the outdoors.
Neil is survived by his two sons, Greg (Shelley) Stevermer of Lakefield and Robert (Teri) Stevermer of Chaska; four grandchildren, Nick (Miki) Stevermer, Brittany (Logan) Underdahl, William Stevermer, and Megan Stevermer; two great-grandchildren, Eli Stevermer and Valan Underdahl; two sisters, Margie (Milton) Hanson of Long Lake and JoAnn (Tom) Gorman of Waconia; also nieces, nephews, and special friend, Joann Leffel of Mankato.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Erna in 2001; and five brothers, Gene, John, Mark, Alan, and Bernie.
