Paul Stephen Schmidt, 81 of Mankato, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at his home.

Funeral is 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 31, 2016 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Minneopa Cemetery. The family prefers memorials be given to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church or Mayo Hospice.

Paul was born May 2, 1935 to Michael and Irene (Lechnar) Schmidt in Hartington, NE. After graduation he served in the United States Marines from 1954 to 1956. On June 7, 1958 he married Lois Koch.

Paul worked for 43 years at Honeymead in Mankato. He was a member of St. Joseph the worker Catholic Church. He was a proud member of the American Legion in Mankato being a part of the Honor Guard at many funerals. He was also a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League. In his free time, Paul enjoyed wintering in Texas, old time music, semi- trucks, and especially spending time on his Gold Wing Motorcycle. Paul will be remembered for his outgoing, happy, and joyful personality who will be greatly missed by many.

Paul is survived by his wife, Lois of 58 years; sons, Doug (Tammy) Schmidt of Mapleton and Brad (Tara) Schmidt of Lake Crystal; grandchildren, Dustyn, Dillon, Dalton, Dawson, Zachary, and Caden; sisters, Viola Baker, Velma Pieper, Dorothy (Jerry) Coopman, Irene E. Schmidt, and Sue (Farrish) Thompson; sister-in-law, Darlene Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul G., sister, Mary Ann Schnider; and brothers, Mike, Bob, and Leonard.
