Hurry, Dennis “Denny” Norbert, age 87, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minnesota.
 
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and then at the church one hour prior to the funeral. A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 304 Monroe Ave, North Mankato. A private interment for the immediate family will take place at Woodland Hills Cemetery, Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Jesus Loves Me or Risen Savior at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of North Mankato. Military honors provided by Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad. Dennis was born October 17, 1929 in Merrill, Wisconsin and moved to Mankato with his parents in 1930. He married Joan Lucille Guth on October 29, 1950 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Mankato.
 
He was a dedicated family man and looked forward to celebrations during holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries.
 
Dennis loved exploring Minnesota and the U.S. in his campers. In later years, he enjoyed winters at Caliente Park in Florence, AZ. He enjoyed life with many interests, including pheasant hunting; stock car racing; and restoring old vehicles, including a 1919 Republic truck.
 
He was a retired employee of NSP, now Xcel Energy, in Mankato. Prior to that, Dennis worked with his father, stepmother, and brothers at Hurry’s Appliance in Mankato. For many years after his retirement, he repaired sewing machines and small appliances.
 
Dennis was a World War II veteran serving primarily on the west coast. He was proud to be able to serve his country.
 
He served the Mankato/North Mankato communities including: President of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and member of several other committees, Mankato Reserve Police Officer, Executive Secretary of the Mankato Builders Exchange, and member of the Mankato Planning and Zoning Commission.
 
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Joan (Guth) Hurry, Mankato; daughter, Susan (LaVern) Wilmes, Farmington, MN; son, Steven (Roxy) Hurry, Kiefer, OK; grandchildren, Matthew Wilmes, Lewiston, MN, Marshall (Angela) Wilmes, St. Louis Park, MN, Jennifer (Danny) Cole, Bixby, OK, Adam (Amanda) Hurry, Jenks, OK; great-grandchildren, Jace Cole, Aubrey Cole, Jensen Hurry; brother, Lee (Deloris) Hurry, Minnetonka, MN; stepbrother, James Frescholtz, Show Low, AZ; sister-in-law, Mary Voeltz, Nicollet, MN.  He will also be greatly missed by many relatives and good friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Al Hurry and Arlene (Schroeder) Frescholtz; stepfather, Carl Frescholtz; stepmother, Mabel (Muecke) Hurry; brother, Merl Hurry; sister-in-law, DeLoris (Rositzke) Hurry; and brother-in-law, Larry Voeltz.
