Doris Gertrude Lorentz, 92, of North Mankato, died Friday, October 14, 2016 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Mankato Mortuary, 1001 N. Riverfront Drive, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Doris will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.
Doris was born on the family farm in Decoria Township, Blue Earth County on September 20, 1924 to Elmer and Gertrude (Kollman) Kalbow. Due to her mother'’s early death in 1927, Doris and her brother were raised by her grandparents, John and Rosetta Kalbow. Doris attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Mankato High School in 1943. She worked at Automatic Electric Defense Plant until she married Roman A. Lorentz on April 12, 1948. She then moved to the Lorentz Century Farm in Belgrade Township.
Doris was a proud member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and took part in many Circle meetings. She enjoyed canning, sewing, making throw rugs and especially going to dances and playing cards. Doris was known as a loving and caring person who enjoyed spending time with family and especially visits from her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her children, Deborah Lorentz of Bradenton, FL, Gerard Lorentz of North Mankato, Nancy (Dennis) Wilson of Amboy, Rosetta (Steven) George of North Mankato, Rochelle “Shelly” (Mike) Lane of Mankato, and Douglas Lorentz of North Mankato; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lorraine Kalbow; brother-in-law, Bob Huber; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, John and Rose
Kalbow; husband Romie in 1989; children, Jean (David) Batalden and Rita Peterson; granddaughters, Sarah George and Tara (Nathan) Franklin; siblings, Jerald and Donald Kalbow, Joye Huber, and Ragea “Gay” Nielsen; and brother and sister-in-laws.
