Melvin Lewis Herman, 95, of Mankato, passed away on October 13, 2016 at Keystone Communities, Mankato.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2016 at Mankato Mortuary, 1001 N Riverfront Drive, Mankato. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Melvin was born September 18, 1921 to Louis and Lillian (Zabel) in Minnesota Lake, MN and was raised with five siblings. He enlisted in the US Army on May 5, 1942, and was a truck master in Panama before being honorably discharged on November 16, 1945. Following his discharge, he was married and later divorced to Evelyn Stankey. Melvin was a truck driver for Honeymead, and a bartender at Brannigan’s in Mankato. While bartending, he met the love of his life, Lois Jacobsen, in 1976. He was a member of the American Legion, Morson-Ario, and the VFW. Melvin enjoyed watching Minnesota sports, playing cards, and spending time with Lois. He was a very giving man and was always there for everyone. Melvin will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his wit.
He is survived by his life partner, Lois Jacobsen; sons, Thomas, Timothy, Tyrone, and Trent; sister, Delores Murphy; brother, Kenneth Herman; many great-grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry; daughters, Roxanne Rivera and Rhona Winfield; brothers, Adrian, Gene, and Leon.
