James Schultz, age 84, of Mapleton, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at his home.
Funeral service will be 2:00pm, Monday, October 17, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church in Mapleton with visitation one hour prior. Reverend Vicki Hultine will be officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Union Cemetery. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jim was born December 22, 1931 on his family’s farm in Mapleton to Carl and Lillie (Kunz) Schultz. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1949 and enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 4, 1950. Jim earned the Korean Service Medal, Dist. Pres. Unit Citation, UN Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal before being honorably discharged on March 3, 1954. On November 28, 1955, he was united in marriage to Darlene Reichel in Mapleton and they raised five children. Together, they enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, and spending time with family. Jim also spent his time deer and pheasant hunting, relaxing on the pontoon, and visiting the casino. For 35 years, Jim worked at Brown Wilbert Vault Company, helping with everything from manufacturing to delivering. Described as loving, compassionate, and dependable, Jim will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his children, LeeAnn (Duane) Goodrich of rural Mapleton, Karl (Patti) Schultz of Mapleton, James (Shirley McKenna) Schultz of Texas, Brian (Wendy) Schultz of Lake Crystal, and Jeffrey Schultz of Mapleton; grandchildren, Douglas (Missy) Goodrich, Jeremy (Brianna) Goodrich, Jason Schultz, Karrie (Bob) Owens, Travis Schultz, Chad (Stephanie) Landwer, Brittany Smith, and Tabitha (Logan) Bryant; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; and three brothers, Roger, Darrell, and Robert.
