Eugene R. Nordby, 88, formerly of Mankato, died Monday, September 12, 2016 at Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Crosslake.

Celebration of Life for Eugene will be held from 5-8 PM, Friday, October 14, 2016 at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary (2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, MN 56003).

Eugene was born December 15, 1927, in Rochester, MN, the son of Roy and Pearl (Batcher) Nordby. Following his graduation from Rochester High School, Eugene attended the University of Minnesota where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1952, he was united in marriage to Maxine M. Remund. He worked for various companies in Cedar Rapids, IA and the Twin Cities Metro Area before the couple settling in Mankato in 1962 and raised their family.

Once retired, Eugene and Maxine enjoyed spending their summers in the Brainerd Lakes Area and the cold winter months in Arizona. Eugene had lots of interests; he liked fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He liked to tinker with electronics and was always excited to travel. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League, call sign W0FQV.

But above all, Eugene loved to spend time with his family, especially the grandchildren. He will be missed by his wife, Maxine; children, Robert (Christi) Nordby, of Chanhassen and Ruth (Mike) Schwieters, of Crosslake; sister, Phyllis Kunz, of Rochester; and grandchildren, Tyler, Daniel, and Robert.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald.
